The Kano State Fire Service says two children, a six-year-old boy, Ahmad Abdurashid, and a girl of about eight years, drowned in wells.

Master Abdulrashid drowned in a well in the Dandishe Tsamiyar Goodluck area of the Dala Local Government Area, Kano State, on Wednesday.

A statement by the public relations officer of the fire service, Saminu Abdullahi, on Wednesday, said the incident occurred in the morning.

Mr Abdullahi said, “We received an emergency call from Abubakar Sadiq at about 10:02 a.m. that a boy had drowned in a well, and we immediately sent our rescue team to the scene.”

He said the boy was brought out of the well dead and was handed over to one Abdulrashid, who happened to be the victim’s father from the Dandishe quarter.

The fire service spokesman said the cause of the incident was under investigation.

In another development, a girl of about eight years old drowned in a well on Tuesday morning in Kashirmo village by Sarkakiya in Dawakin, Tofa Local Government Area of Kano state.

”We received an emergency call from Kabiru Abdullahi at about 08:53 a.m. that a girl fell into a well at about 10:02 a.m.

“We immediately sent our rescue team to the scene,” he said.

He said that with God’s intervention, our rescue team brought her out of the well, but she was later confirmed dead.
