AbdulGaniyu Obasa, the son of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has been sworn in as the acting chairman of Agege Local Government.

The legislative arm of the Agege LG, during a plenary on Wednesday, approved the appointment of Mr Obasa who has been the council’s vice chairman, after Tunde Azeez, commonly known as Disco, resigned on health grounds.

The lawmakers who unanimously accepted Mr Azeez’s resignation, following assumed health challenges affecting the discharge of his duties, stressed the importance of prioritizing personal health and well-being while maintaining the integrity of governance.

The lawmakers who acknowledged Mr Azeez’s dedication, service to the community, and commitment to public service, wished him a speedy recovery, after being on medical leave barely a month after his swearing-in on July 26, 2025.

The council lawmakers thereafter made a resolution to replace him with Mr Obasa’s son with immediate effect, adding that his appointment emphasises the LG’s commitment to seamless leadership transition, stability, and continued service delivery to residents.

Confirming the development to journalists, an aide to Mr Azeez, Rotimi Sulaiman, said, “Hon. Tunde Azeez has been long sick and his decision to resign and devote his attention to his health rather than being weighed down by the responsibility of that office is the wise decision any sane person should take.

“The beneficiary of that excellent decision, Abdulganiyu Vinod Obasa, is a visionary young man who in the last few months of Azeez’s absence has demonstrated uncommon capacity. I think Agege is lucky to have both guys.”
