Man arraigned over alleged assault

The man pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The police on Thursday, charged a 55-year-old man, Lukman Adeshina, before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, for allegedly beating up a complainant.

Adeshina, whose address was not provided, was on  trial on charges bordering on conspiracy, assault and conduct likely to cause the breach of peace.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Inspectir Olalekan Adegbite, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on December 15, 2024, at about 11.00 a.m. at the Apata area of Ibadan.

He alleged that the defendant and others now at large, assaulted one Sulaimon Adeshina by beating him up.

He alleged that the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace, by assaulting the complainant.

The offence contravenes the provisions of sections 249(d), 351, and 516 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.

The Magistrate, Kausarat Ayofe, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case until January 20, 2026 for hearing.
