Gunshots rent the air as ecstatic supporters jubilated as Governor Charles Soludo was declared winner of the November 8 governorship election.

Excited security fired shots into the air as the news of Mr Soludo’s re-election broke at the incumbent’s country home in Isuofia, Aguata LGA.

The Independent National Electoral Commission declared Mr Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance the winner of the 2025 Anambra governorship election. 

The election was held on Saturday, which observers and opposition parties alleged was riddled with vote-buying.

Mr Soludo polled 422,664 votes to defeat other contenders.

 APC’s Nicholas Ukachukwu had 99,445 votes, George Moghalu of the Labour Party had 10,576 votes, Chuma Nwosu of the African Democratic Congress had 8208 votes, and the Peoples Democratic Party’s Jude Ezenwafor received 1,401 votes.

The number of registered voters was 2,788,864, but only  598,229 were accredited. The governorship poll took place across 21 LGAs.

According to INEC, 584,054 valid votes were cast, 11,244 votes were rejected out of a total of 595,298.

The results also showed the votes of the other parties. A- 224; AA- 1,145; AAC- 292; APM- 892; APP- 73; BP- 126; NNPP- 525; NRM – 36; SDP- 241; YPP- 37,753; and ZLP- 453.

Sixteen political parties contested in the election.

Mr Soludo will begin his second term in 2026 when his first-term tenure ends.
