Chioma Ifemeludike of the African Action Congress (AAC) has described herself as a winner after securing 292 votes in the just-concluded Anambra governorship election.
“I’m a winner,” Ms Ifemeludike declared on Sunday. “Integrity stands firm and higher than political deception.”
The Independent National Electoral Commission earlier declared the incumbent governor, Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), winner of the election after garnering 422,664 votes to defeat his All Progressives Congress (APC) rival, Nicholas Ukachukwu, who came second with 99,445 votes.
Ms Ifemeludike, who commented on the process shortly after the announcement, alleged voter manipulation during the process.
She stated, “I would rather go build a borehole in that community, renovate classrooms, and give scholarships with that money rather than buy the conscience of people I plan to liberate from generational hardship and poverty.”
The AAC candidate further decried the alleged impunity allegedly carried out by security operatives and the government, expressing concerns over the country’s future.
“If I didn’t see the level of impunity, callousness, and corrupt behavior jointly carried out by government, electorates, and security institutions against our society, I would probably feel left out with all the results rolling out,” Ms Ifemeludike said. “I feel worried about the future.”
