The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has begun a three-day workshop in Keffi, Nasarawa State, to harmonise human resource management documents and strengthen its institutional framework for efficiency.

Organised by the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) in partnership with NAPTIP and supported by the Ministry of Asylum and Migration of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the workshop sought to enhance capacity.

It focuses on improving the agency’s ability to prevent human trafficking, protect victims, and promote safe and orderly migration across Nigeria through more effective human resource management and better operational coordination.

Speaking at the opening, NAPTIP director-general Binta Adamu-Bello said the exercise was part of ongoing efforts to restructure departments, streamline operations, and review schemes and conditions of service for efficiency.

“This workshop marks a major step in strengthening NAPTIP’s institutional framework to better deliver on our mandate.

“As we grow, our systems and governance structures must evolve,” she said.

Ms Adamu-Bello described the HR review as timely and strategic, noting that a well-defined service scheme promoted fairness, accountability, and transparency.

She also urged alignment with public service rules and civil service directives.

Ms Adamu-Bello hailed ICMPD for consistent support in building NAPTIP’s capacity and strengthening governance systems.

The collaboration, she said, had been vital in enhancing efficiency and promoting sustainability within the agency’s operations.

In her remarks, the head of mission of ICMPD in Nigeria, Isabelle Wolfsgruber, reaffirmed the centre’s commitment to partnering with NAPTIP and other agencies to combat trafficking and violence.

She thanked the Ministry of Asylum and Migration of the Kingdom of the Netherlands for supporting the project and promoting migration governance reforms aimed at improving coordination and institutional growth in Nigeria.
