The Kano State Judicial Service Commission has approved the appointment of Hussein Hassan-Suleiman as the acting chief registrar of the state’s High Court of Justice.

This followed the retirement of the substantive Chief Registrar, Hajara Garba Ahmed, on November 11, 2025.

A statement issued on Friday in Kano by the spokesman for the Kano State Judiciary, Baba Jibo-Ibrahim, said the decision was taken at the commission’s 87th meeting chaired by the Chief Judge, Justice Dije Abdu Aboki.

The Secretary of the Commission, Amina Albasu, conveyed the approval, saying that Mr Suleiman who was the Director, Public Prosecutions at the Ministry of Justice was appointed in recognition of his hard work, integrity, humility and dedication to duty.

The commission expressed confidence that the new appointee would discharge his responsibilities diligently and uphold judicial values.

The JSC also approved the appointment of 30 Sharia Court judges who successfully participated in examinations and interviews and were adjudged qualified for appointment.

The commission also considered the transfer of service of Magistrate Dayyabu Haruna from Kaduna State. His swearing-in and oath-taking were approved in line with constitutional provisions, and he was subsequently sworn in by the Chief Judge, Justice Aboki.

The commission further deliberated on the report of the Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission concerning an alleged case of criminal conspiracy, perjury and gratification against a judiciary worker, Ado Koki.

Mr Koki was alleged to have collected ₦39,000 for the issuance of three plain affidavits used for the re-issuance of land documents.

In his response, he admitted receiving the money, claiming it was intended for a newspaper publication and for obtaining a police report.

Mr Jibo-Ibrahim said, “Although the officer does not consistently remain at his duty post, he has not been found wanting in the discharge of his responsibilities. However, the commission found his conduct inappropriate and placed him on half salary for three months, effective immediately, while issuing a strong warning against future misconduct. The JSC reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance on indiscipline and reiterated its commitment to upholding integrity, accountability and professionalism within the judiciary. The commission remains dedicated to safeguarding the integrity of the judicial arm of government and ensuring that all officers uphold the trust reposed in them by the people of Kano State.’’
