Army builds primary school in Kaduna community where military drone killed 85 in error
The Nigerian Army on Tuesday handed over a newly built two blocks of seven classrooms, a staff room and a principal’s office to the Tudun Biri Community in the Igabi Local Government Area in Kaduna State.
Tudun Biri community was on December 3, 2023, accidentally attacked by the Nigerian Army drone, which led to the death of 85 residents.
The tragedy befell the ill-fated community while the residents were observing the Annual Maulud celebration, commemorating the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
The General Officer Commanding (GOC),1 Division Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen. Abubakar Wase, handed over the school on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, to the Kaduna State Government.
He said the newly built school was part of its civil-military relations programme.
He said, “Army expects the community to allow their children to attend the school and for the state government to provide teachers and staff to operate the school.”
Mr Wase said the army’s goal was to increase access to education and produce more educated individuals in the community, Kaduna State, and Nigeria as a whole.
He urged the state government to ensure that the school was properly maintained and utilised for the benefit of the community.
The Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affair, Kaduna State, Dr Sule Shu’aibu, received the school on behalf of the state government.
Mr Shu’aibu said the state government was committed to providing staffing and resources to ensure its effective operation.
He stated that Governor Uba Sani had assured that the process would be done quickly, and the children of the community would benefit from the facility.
Mr Shu’aibu expressed gratitude to the Nigerian Army for building the school and vowed to continue collaborating with the military to ensure security and development in the state.
The Village Head of Tudun Biri, Balarabe Garba, appreciated the Nigerian Army for successfully executing the noble project.
He promised the Nigerian Army and the state government that the community would ensure that the parents enrol their children and wards in the school.
