The Ebonyi Police Command says Christopher Igwe, the younger brother of Uchenna Igwe, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, was killed by suspected armed robbers.

The command’s spokesman, SP Joshua Ukandu, told journalists on Tuesday in Abakaliki, the state capital, that the incident occurred around the Ishieke axis in Ebonyi Local Government Area at about 10:00 p.m. on Monday night.

“Yes, the incident occurred on Monday night at about 10:00 p.m. along the Ishieke area,” said Mr Ukandu. “The armed robbers, after operations at a cooking gas selling store, began to shoot, and, unfortunately, the brother of the commissioner was shot dead.”

Mr Ukandu said the command’s men had already launched an investigation into the matter to arrest the hoodlums.

He urged residents to provide useful information to ensure that the perpetrators of the crime were brought to book.
