Rep. Abdulmalik Zubairu (APC-Zamfara) has donated food items and cash to the families of six policemen recently killed by bandits along the Gusau-Funtua Highway.

This is contained in a statement signed by the chief press secretary to the lawmaker, Aminu Lawal, issued in Gusau on Sunday.

Six policemen under the Zamfara police command were recently killed by bandits in an ambush along the road.

According to Mr Lawal, the donation was presented to the families of the deceased by the chairman of the coordinating committee to the lawmaker, Bashar Bello-Auki.

“The lawmaker described the death of the policemen as a great loss.
“He noted that the loss of the deceased was not only limited to their families but to the nation as a whole,” he added.

Mr Zubairu, represented by Bello-Auki, said each of the six bereaved families was given two bags of rice, two bags of maize, one bag of millet, five bags of Semovita, and N200,000.

“The essence of the donation was to reduce the pain and suffering of the families as a result of the losses of the victims who died in an assignment to defend the nation.”

The lawmaker also condoled with the Nigeria Police Force, the Zamfara Commissioner of Police, and the families of the deceased.

He also prayed for Allah’s forgiveness and to reward the victims with Aljannatul Firdausi.

Responding on behalf of the NPF, Zamfara Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Maikaba described the gesture as timely and worthwhile.

Mr Maikaba appreciated the concern exhibited by the lawmaker and called on the beneficiaries to make the best use of the gesture.

Mr Lawal quoted the police commissioner as saying, “Security of lives and properties of citizens is a collective responsibility.

“There is the need for other influential and affluent people to emulate the invaluable gesture.”
