South-West governors summon emergency meeting over security threat

Governors in South-West Nigeria on Monday held a proactive closed-door emergency meeting in Ibadan, Oyo State, to deliberate on matters affecting the region.
The emergency meeting being hosted by Governor Seyi Makinde at his office in Agodi has Governors Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, Ademola Adeleke of Osun, Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo, and Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti in attendance.
While details of the meeting are yet to be ascertained, it is believed that the growing security threats in the South-West will be part of their discussions.
The governors are expected to review the operations of the Amotekun Corps to improve its capacity to address the rising security challenges in the region.
Also, they will deliberate on infrastructural development and strengthen regional integration under the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria, DAWN.
This meeting comes days after terrorists’ attacks, killings, and kidnappings intensified in some northern states, most recently in Bauchi, Kwara, and Kebbi.
It also followed the warning by the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Gani Adams, that terrorists ravaging Northern Nigeria are planning major attacks in the South-West states of Oyo, Ekiti, Ondo, and Lagos.
