Ogun man arrested for multimillion-naira land fraud

A 62-year-old man, Dada Gbadebo, on Tuesday appeared before the Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun for defrauding another of N4 million under the pretence of selling him four plots of land.
Mr Gbadebo, of no fixed address, is standing trial on two counts of fraud and obtaining money by false pretence.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on October 27, at Idebo-Ikotan Village, Via Onibukun, Ota.
Mr Adaraloye alleged that the defendant fraudulently collected the sum of N4 million under the pretext of selling four plots of land to the complainant, Awotunde Abosede.
He said that the defendant converted the money for personal use rather than fulfilling the agreement between him and the complainant.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 390(8b)(9) and 418 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
The magistrate, O.O. Fadairo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N450,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Ms Fadairo ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to the Ogun government.
The case was adjourned until December 22 for further hearing.
