A 42-year-old travel agent, Lawal Olanrewaju, has been arraigned before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, Oyo State, for alleged N18 million fraud charge.

The defendant, whose house address was not disclosed, is facing a three – count charge of conspiracy, fraud and stealing, which he pleaded not guilty to.

The prosecuting counsel, ASP Tunji Olaniyi, told the court that the defendant allegedly conspired with others at large to commit the offence.

Mr Olaniyi alleged that the defendant fraudulently obtained the sum of N18 million from one Malik Abiola under the pretence of wanting to secure certificate of sponsorship (COS) within twenty-four hours, knowing the claim to be false.

He alleged that the defendant instead converted the N18 million to his personal use.

Olaniyi said the offence contravened Sections 390 (9), 419 and 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State 2000.

The Magistrate, M. Mudashiru admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N1million, with two sureties in like sum.

Mr Mudashiru said one of the sureties must be a blood relative while the second surety must present evidence of three years tax as part of the bail conditions.

He adjourned the matter until February 2,2026. for hearing.
