The commander of the Infantry Corps, Nigerian Army, Godwin Mutkut, has continued to foster synergy, with special visits to some key military training institutions in Kaduna, according to a statement on Wednesday.

“Maj.-Gen. Mutkut has concluded a series of strategic familiarisation visits to two critical institutions in the Nigerian Armed Forces training architecture. They were the Air Training Command (ATC) and the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) on Tuesday in Kaduna,” it said.

It said the visits underscored the emphasis placed by the army on deepening inter-service cooperation.

The visits were also aimed at ensuring that future leaders across the air force and army are seamlessly integrated for contemporary joint operations as well as enhancing Officers’ Cadets Training at the NDA.

It added, ”Mutkut, who recently assumed command as the 59th Commander, Infantry Corps, was received at the Headquarters, Air Training Command (ATC) by the Air Officer Commanding (AOC), AVM Ahmed Dari. The CIC acknowledged the crucial role of the ATC in providing tactical air support and reconnaissance, which are indispensable to the success of ongoing counter-insurgency and counter-banditry operations involving infantry formations.”

It disclosed that the discussions with the AOC focused on reviewing established protocols for ground-to-air communication and improving interoperability in joint exercises. They were also aimed at integrating advanced tactical training for forward air controllers within the infantry structure.

Responding, Mr Dari assured the CIC of the Air Training Command’s continuous support in optimising air asset utilisation to enhance the effectiveness and the combat efficiency of ground troops.

At the NDA, Mr Mutkut was received by the commandant, Oluyemi Olatoye. He said during their meeting, the CIC commended the commandant for the recent progress in enhancing cadet regimentation, infrastructure, and the overall quality of officers’ production.

“Discussions centred on aligning the NDA’s curriculum with the evolving tactical and technological requirements of the Infantry Corps, the elite fighting force of the NA,” said the statement.

Mr Mutkut stressed the importance of laying a solid foundation in joint operations awareness right from the cadets’ level.

The commandant affirmed the NDA’s commitment to collaborating closely with all the services, ensuring that graduating officer cadets possess the moral, mental, and operational resilience required to confront the modern security challenges.

The CIC stated that such high-level exchanges were vital for fostering mutual understanding, respect, and seamless synergy between the services, which remained the bedrock of success in the Armed Forces’ commitment to safeguarding national security.
