The Nigeria Police Force has granted administrative bail to the Chairman of Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State, Andrew Ogunsakin, detained at the Force Headquarters over alleged criminal trespass and threat to life.

Mr Ogunsakin who was detained on Tuesday after honouring a police invitation issued by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, was released on Wednesday.

Peoples Gazette learned that Mr Ogunsakin, who was invited by the police earlier in November, had written to Mr Egbetokun, asking to be offered more time to appear before the police for interrogation, citing an overloaded official schedule.

In a letter dated October 29, 2025, and signed by the Director of Legal Services of Okitipupa LG, Yemi Egbodofo, Mr Ogunsakin requested a shift in the interview date and proposed a window between the third week of November and the first week of December.

The letter read, “I write on behalf of Hon. Andrew Ogunsakin, the Chairman of Okitipupa Local Government, Okitipupa, Ondo State (hereinafter “our client”), to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of 24th October, 2025, with reference No. CR: 3000/IGP. SEC/MU/T6/ABJ/VOL on the above subject.

“I have the instruction of our client (Hon. Andrew Ogunsakin) to inform you that he would have loved to attend the said interview as scheduled but for his official engagement. Therefore, he has instructed us to crave the indulgence of the IGP for a more convenient date between the 3rd week of November and the 1st week of December, 2025. While thanking you in anticipation of your kind consideration, please do accept the assurances of our highest professional regards.”

However, the police did not honour his request for an extension, resulting in his subsequent detention following his appearance at the Force Headquarters on Tuesday, The Gazette learnt.

The matter was handled under the investigative reference CR 3000/IGP/SEC/MU/T6/ABJ/VOL and supervised by CSP Muhammed Abdulkareem of the IGP Monitoring Unit.

Senior police sources who spoke with our correspondent on Friday, said Mr Ogunsakin was grilled by officers of the IGP Monitoring Unit, and was made to write a statement, before granting him administrative bail on Wednesday, December 3.

The local government chairman’s arrest and detention was precipitated by a petition filed by the Chief Executive Officer of Aduro Farms, Dr Anthony Aduro, who alleged that Mr Ogunsakin invaded his property in Okitipupa and unlawfully encroached on his land. 

Mr Aduro, through his lawyer, simply identified as Collins, of Brikani Associates law firm, urged the police to investigate what he described as “coordinated trespass and intimidation.”
