The caretaker chairman of the Accord Party in Osun, Victor Akande, says 150 delegates will participate in the party’s primary to elect Governor Ademola Adeleke as its candidate for the August 8, 2026, Osun governorship election.

Mr Akande, who spoke at the venue of the primary on Wednesday in Osogbo, said that Mr Adeleke is the sole governorship aspirant of the party.

Mr Adeleke announced his defection to the Accord Party on Tuesday night.

Mr Adeleke said that he had joined the Accord Party more than a month ago to seek re‑election.

The governor resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party on December 2.

Mr Akande, however, said that five party delegates are expected from each of the state’s 30 local government areas to participate in the primary.

Delegates have started arriving at the venue of the primary, with heavily armed personnel from the State Security Service and the police present.
