PDP pledges internal democracy, prepares for 2027 return

The national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Tanimu Turaki, assured Nigerians of the party’s commitment to internal democracy and fairness on Wednesday in Abuja.
Turaki made the remarks during a meeting between the new National Working Committee and PDP members of the National Assembly.
He promised an open-door policy, an end to impunity, and an end to internal manipulation as the party implements new strategies to reclaim power in 2027.
Mr Turaki said, “I want to assure Nigerians, especially PDP members nationwide, that we will listen and respond to their needs promptly and transparently. There will no longer be room for impunity, manipulation or favouritism. Nigerians will be allowed to aspire and achieve their goals. PDP is now a true party.”
He described the meeting as crucial, highlighting the National Assembly caucus’s role in the party’s mission to return to power in 2027.
“Together with members of the National Assembly, we will transform Nigeria through the instrumentality of the PDP,” Mr Turaki added.
Abdul Ningi, speaking for the Senate PDP caucus, commended the NWC for convening the meeting and praised the leadership’s direction.
Mr Ningi emphasised that the party possesses the capacity and resources required to return to power and called for loyalty from members.
“We know the issues in PDP are man-made. Man-made problems require man-made solutions. The challenges are solvable,” Mr Ningi said.
He warned that some may forget PDP’s contributions, but the party’s long-term vision extends well beyond 2027.
“Our thinking is beyond 2027. Anyone seeking to terminate PDP over 2027 issues is not aligned with our values,” Mr Ningi added.
The minority whip of the House of Representatives, Ali Isa, affirmed lawmakers’ commitment to work with Turaki’s leadership to safeguard Nigeria’s democracy. He urged Nigerians to support the PDP, reinforcing the party’s capacity to advise and strengthen the country’s democratic institutions.
The NWC also met with the party’s ex officio members to discuss strategic priorities.
