Ondo to vaccinate 2.2 million children against measles, rubella

The Ondo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency says it is targeting 2.2 million children in the 18 local government areas of the state for vaccination against measles and rubella.
The permanent secretary of the agency, Francis Akanbiemu, said this on Thursday during a media sensitisation on measles/rubella vaccination.
Mt Akanbiemu, represented by the director of disease control and immunisation in the agency, Victor Adefesoye, said that the vaccination would hold from January 20, 2026 to January 29, 2026.
He said that it would capture children from nine months to 14 years.
He said that the vaccination would be through injection without any adverse effects.
Mr Akanbiemu further said that the agency had prepared to address the challenges of each community in order to make the vaccination seamless.
According to him, there are punishments in the country’s laws to restrain individuals, organisations and groups that would want to impede the exercise.
He, therefore, urged parents and custodians of children to release them for the exercise which, he said, is free.
Also speaking, the state immunisation officer, Florence Fadiji, said there would be fixed and mobile posts, where the targeted children could be vaccinated.
Ms Fadiji urged media organisations to collaborate with the agency to spread the benefit of the vaccination which, according to her, will further guarantee the safety and wellness of the children.
