LASTMA links Eko Bridge gridlock to Apogbon repairs

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has attributed the gridlock on Eko Bridge to ongoing repair work by the Federal Ministry of Works on the Apongbon Bridge.
The general manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, stated this in an interview with journalists on Tuesday in Lagos.
Mr Bakare-Oki said engineers had been working for four to five hours, causing traffic congestion.
“We asked them to remove the barrier that had been placed, and they have since left the area. We are now coping with the backlog,” he said.
A journalist, Mike Ochomma, described the situation on Eko Bridge as “terrible.”
“I left Mushin at 12:15 p.m., heading to the Island, and got caught in traffic near the National Stadium.
“I spent no less than three hours in the jam. The congestion even affected motorists coming from Apapa,” he said.
Similarly, a businesswoman, Maureen Obilor, said she had to divert to Oyingbo Market and board a bus to the Island from there.
“This is not right at all. Repairs should not be carried out during such a critical period of the season.
“There was no prior information about these repairs, which caught people unawares. We would have made proper arrangements if we had known,” she said.
Motorists heading to the Island via the Eko Bridge were stranded for hours due to the repairs on the Apongbon Bridge, with the gridlock extending to the Alaka bus stop.
