Police arrest TikToker Peller for attempted suicide, reckless driving

The Lagos police command has arrested and detained popular TikToker Habeeb Hamzat, aka Peller, following the viral live-streamed incident that ended in a road crash.
In a statement on Tuesday, the police said the arrest came on the heels of a viral video by Peller on Sunday, accusing the TikToker of attempting to die by suicide and endangering the lives of other people.
The case is being investigated by the State Criminal Investigation Department.
“The outcome of the investigation will be made public, and the suspect will be charged in the court of competent jurisdiction in accordance with the law,” the police said.
Meanwhile, police commissioner Olohundare Jimoh has issued a stern warning to social media influencers and content creators, cautioning them against promoting dangerous behaviour online.
“Social media platforms must not be used to engage in or promote reckless, dangerous, or unlawful and criminal acts,” he said. “Such lawlessness will not be tolerated, and the full weight of the law will be applied to any offender.”
