Former Delta senator Nwaoboshi is dead

Former representative of Delta North Senatorial District, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, has died at the age of 68.
Condoling with the former lawmaker’s family, the Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, expressed sorrow over the incident, while describing the late senator’s demise as a huge loss to the state, the Anioma nation and Nigeria.
A condolence message issued by the governor’s chief press secretary, Festus Ahon, hailed the late senator as a courageous advocate and a contributor to national development.
“On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, I mourn the passing of my dear friend, Senator Peter Onyelukachukwu Nwaoboshi,” Mr Oborevwori said.
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to his immediate family, the people of Anioma nation, members of our great party, the All Progressives Congress, and all those whose lives he touched.”
“I pray that Almighty God grants his soul eternal rest and gives his family, friends and associates the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” the government said.
Mr Oborevwori extolled the commitment, service and leadership qualities of the late senator during his lifetime and as a member of the National Assembly.
The governor noted that the late lawmaker’s role as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Niger Delta Affairs, contributed development to the Niger Delta region and Delta state.
“Senator Nwaoboshi’s political journey and rise to prominence were anchored on a rich political pedigree, selfless service and unwavering commitment to the ideals of democracy, which also saw him serve meritoriously as a two-time Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State,” the statement noted.
