Kano govt. approves N39 billion for capital projects

Mr Yusuf said the approvals reflected his administration’s commitment to inclusive development.

Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has approved ₦38.7 billion for a myriad of developmental projects and the settlement of critical obligations across various key sectors.

The approvals, granted at the 35th Executive Council Meeting, covered security, education, road infrastructure, water supply, health services, agriculture, energy, and compensation payments.

This is contained in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa, in Kano on Saturday.

He said that the council had also approved ₦3.77 billion for critical interventions in the education sector.

Mr Dawakin-Tofa said, “Similarly, ₦1.69 billion was earmarked for the settlement of boarding school suppliers for the 2025/2026 academic session, ₦375 million for procuring 50,000 school bags for pupils and ₦369.9 million for rehabilitating Government Secondary School, Mariri.”

He explained that the council also approved ₦1.32 billion for relocating and reconstructing Maikwatashi and Danwaire Primary Schools.

He quoted Mr Yusuf as directing contractors to complete classroom projects across 44 local government areas within one month, aiming to restore quality, safety, and dignity in public education.

The council also approved funds for the procurement of 300 motorcycles for the Neighbourhood Watch Corps and the settlement of boarding school suppliers’ claims.

“Healthcare facility renovation will gulp -₦6.81 billion and the payment of compensation for 5,015 Rimin Zakara property owners,” he added.

Mr Yusuf said the approvals reflected his administration’s commitment to inclusive development, infrastructure renewal, improved security, and better living standards.

The council also approved ₦26.1 billion for road construction, water supply, and compensation projects.

The approvals granted included ₦16.29 billion for Gwarzo–Tsaure–Tsanyawa Road, ₦6.81 billion compensation for 5,015 Rimin Zakara property owners and ₦2.22 billion for Murtala Mohammed Way rehabilitation.

”₦398.2 million for Phase II Abba Kabir Yusuf Water Supply Projects, ₦182.1 million for Hotoro water pipeline expansion and ₦111.7 million for Gani Earth Dam rehabilitation were also approved.

“These projects are aimed at improving mobility, access to clean water, and economic activities across Kano State.”
