Defendant arraigned over alleged N3.7 million fraud

The police on Monday charged a 35-year-old man, Henry Nnakwe, before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, over alleged N3.7 million fraud.
The defendant whose address was not stated, is standing trial on charges bordering on fraud.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, ASP Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on October 14, at Mav Dav filling station along the seme-badagry expressway.
Mr Ekpo alleged that the defendant fraudulent obtained petroleum valued at N3.7 million from one Olarewaju Olajire, a supervisor at the filling station under the pretence of paying back.
He alleged that the defendant never paid the money.
āThe management of the filling station traced him to his house, apprehended him and handed over him to police for prosecution,ā he said
The offence contravenes the provisions of section 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
The Chief Magistrate, Nurudeen Layeni, granted the defendant bail in the sum of one million naira with two sureties in like sum.
The magistrate said that one of the sureties must be a director of a company.
Mr Layeni adjourned the case until February 5, 2026 for mention.
