Christmas Tragedy: SUV rams into five little children at Lekki

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed responses to two emergencies on Sunday, at Lekki and Apapa, resulting in one suspected fatality and multiple rescues.
The incidents were confirmed in a statement issued by the controller general of the LSFRS, Margaret Adeseye, in Lagos on Sunday evening.
She said that a distress call was received at 2:31 p.m. reporting a road traffic accident at 1, Wole Olateju Crescent, Kingshisha, Lekki Phase 1, off Admiralty Road, within Eti-Osa LGA.
“Firefighters from the Oniru Fire Station were immediately dispatched to the scene.
“Preliminary reports indicate that a Lexus RX300 Jeep, with registration number GGE 750BM, lost control while speeding and ran into five male children, aged between eight and 13 years, who were standing at the gate of the residence.
“Four of the children were rescued alive but sustained severe injuries and were taken to an undisclosed hospital by sympathisers. One male child, aged nine, was suspected dead at the scene, ” she said.
Ms Adeseye said the affected vehicle was damaged and later evacuated by a private towing company, which took it to the Maroko Police Station.
According to her, police were present at the scene and have taken over the case for further investigation.
In a related development, Ms Adeseye said that the Ajegunle Fire Station also responded to another emergency at about 4:47 p.m. following a distress call concerning a broken-down fuel tanker opposite Eco Bank, Apapa.
“Upon arrival, fire service personnel discovered that two adult males were trapped inside the tanker while carrying out repair work.
“Rescue operations were immediately commenced, and both individuals were successfully extricated alive. They were subsequently handed over to medical responders and conveyed to a hospital for further treatment,” she said
Ms Adeseye commended the prompt response of officers and reiterated the Service’s commitment to saving lives and property across Lagos.
