18 die in Jigawa road crash

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Tuesday said 18 people died in an auto crash that occurred in the Dutse Local Government Area of Jigawa.
The state FRSC spokesperson, Corps Route Commander Yahaya Ibrahim, in a statement, said the accident, which involved two Volkswagen cars and a tipper, was caused by excessive speeding and a tyre burst.
He said the accident occurred at about 12:15 p.m. in the Danmasara village on the Dutse-Kwanar Huguma road.
“Eighteen people, including children, lost their lives in the incident that involved two golf cars and one tipper. The crash was caused by speeding, a tyre burst, and loss of control.
“Twenty people were involved in the accident, out of whom 18 lost their lives, while the tipper driver and his assistant sustained injuries.
“The injured victims and corpses were taken to Dutse General Hospital by our rescue team,” Mr Ibrahim said.
This occurred after the corps confirmed 11 persons died and 12 others were injured in a lone auto crash on Ringim-Sankara-Beguwa Road in the Ringim Local Government Area on December 25.
The incident also involved a Volkswagen car and was caused by the same tyre burst and excessive speeding.
