Gombe government establishes electricity, digital economy commissions

Governor Inuwa Yahaya has approved the establishment of the Gombe State Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Gombe Information Technology and Digital Economy Commission.
The move is aimed at strengthening regulation, driving innovation, and deepening economic transformation in Gombe, according to a statement on Tuesday.
The secretary to the state government, Ibrahim Njodi, conveyed the approval, adding that the development followed the governor’s assent to the bills establishing the two commissions, thereby giving them full legal backing to operate.
He said the governor also approved the appointment of Usman Arabi as chairman of the GOSERC and Al-Amin Barambu as chairman of the GIDTEC.
“The creation of GOSERC is in line with the governor’s power sector reform agenda, particularly in leveraging the opportunities provided by the Electricity Act to strengthen electricity regulation.
“This is to improve service delivery, attract investment, and expand access to reliable power across Gombe state. In the same vein, the creation of GIDTEC reflects Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s resolve to transform Gombe state into a technology-driven and digitally competitive economy.
“An economy with strong emphasis on ICT growth, digital innovation, skills development, e-governance, and youth employment,” he said.
The governor urged the appointees to bring their track record of service, professionalism, and integrity to bear in building strong, responsive, and results-oriented institutions.
He said the appointments take effect from January 2, 2026.
