The governments of Burkina Faso and Mali have imposed a travel ban on U.S. citizens, reciprocating President Donald Trump’s travel ban.

In separate statements on Wednesday, the two countries under the grip of military rulers announced a travel ban on the U.S., weeks after Mr Trump declared a travel ban on Mali, Burkina Faso and other African countries.

The Malian ministry said, “In accordance with the principle of reciprocity, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation informs the national and international community that, with immediate effect, the Government of the Republic of Mali will apply the same conditions and requirements to US nationals as those imposed on Malian citizens.”

Burkina Faso’s Foreign Minister Karamoko Jean-Marie Traore, in a statement, similarly,  said the West African country has decided to “apply equivalent visa measures to nationals of the United States of America” in accordance with the “principle of reciprocity.”

Mr Traore added, “The Government of Burkina Faso remains committed to mutual respect, the sovereign equality of States and the principle of reciprocity in its international relations,” and “remains open to cooperation based on respect for mutual interests with all of its partners.’’
