Gov Idris approves N650 million for procurement, installation of 15MVA

Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi has approved the release of N650 million for the procurement and installation of a 15MVA power transformer to boost electricity supply.
The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Yakubu Bala-Tafida, made this known while briefing journalists in Birnin Kebbi on Friday.
Mr Bala-Tafida said the intervention aimed to improve power supply and alleviate the hardship being experienced by residents due to epileptic electricity supply.
He explained that although electricity distribution was statutorily the responsibility of the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KAEDCO), the state government considered it necessary to intervene in the overall interest of the people.
“While power distribution is within the purview of KAEDCO, the Kebbi Government deemed it expedient to step in to ease the suffering of residents caused by persistent power outages,” he said.
Mr Bala-Tafida also revealed that, in addition to the N650 million approval, the state government provides a monthly financial support of N150 million to KAEDCO to enhance service delivery and ensure sustainable electricity supply in the state.
The SSG called on the residents to cooperate with the government and KAEDCO by promptly paying their electricity bills, stating that such cooperation would significantly contribute to sustaining an improved power supply across the state.
