Cameroon will face Morocco in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after the Indomitable Lions defeated South Africa’s Bafana Bafana 2-1 in their round of 16 tie at the Agdal Medina Stadium in Rabat on Sunday.

South Africa started the match looking like the team that would get the first goal in the encounter but wasted several chances inside the opening 10 minutes that could have changed the outcome of the game.

However, Cameroon took their first real chance in the 34th minute when Junior Tchamadeu put the Indomitable Lions ahead after comfortably firing home an attempt that deflected off Samuel Kotto inside the 18-yard box.

Cameroon doubled the advantage just two minutes into the second half after Christian Kofane headed home a cross from Aboubakar Nagida.

Despite the two-goal deficit, the South Africans were unrelenting to find a way to come back in the game. They managed to pull one back in the 88th minute through Evidence Makgopa, who tapped home a cross from Aubrey Modiba into the net.

Following the goal, South Africa tried to score another one inside the last seven minutes, added time included, but the Cameroonians resorted to defensive play to see out the victory and book their place in the last eight.

They will face Morocco for a place in the semifinals at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat on Friday, January 9.
