Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has warned contractors handling road projects in Edo South to hasten work or risk contract revocation.

The warning is contained in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Patrick Ebojele, on Sunday in Benin City.

Mr Ebojele said the governor issued the warning during an inspection of ongoing road construction projects across Edo South.

Mr Okpebholo inspected the 1.4-kilometre Charismatic Church Road off Ekhenwan Road, handled by Place of Peace Investment Ltd.

He also visited Old Sapele Road linking Agip, Ohogbohi and Ogheghe communities, executed by Rawtech Nigeria Ltd.

Other sites included Ogheghe Road off Sapele Road, handled by BRASS Engineering, and the Sapele Road Bypass.

At Church Road, Upper Ekhenwan Road and Sapele Road, the governor expressed dissatisfaction with the slow pace of work.

He said his administration prioritises road infrastructure and would not tolerate delays, particularly with the rainy season approaching.

The governor said that the inspection aimed to assess progress and ensure contractors met agreed timelines and specifications.

He praised contractors on Ogheghe Road and Sapele Road for professionalism and commitment to quality delivery.

He stated, “We’ve gone round several places today, including Church Road and Upper Ekhenwan Road, and we were not too happy. We’ve made observations. If nothing changes by our next visit, we can revoke that job.”

Residents welcomed the governor, thanking him for the projects which they said would improve mobility and boost economic activities.

Mr Okpebholo linked the projects to President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.

“We must work in line with Mr President’s Renewed Hope. Road construction is one way our people will feel the impact,” he said.

Residents of benefiting communities turned out in large numbers, praising what they described as visible and impactful development.

The governor was accompanied by senior officials, including APC Deputy Chairman, Sylvester Aigbobor, and other top government functionaries.

Mr Okpebholo has repeatedly warned non-performing contractors over poor quality and delayed project delivery.

In March 2025, he threatened contract revocation following similar inspections across the state.
