The UK’s Office of Communications (Ofcom), the independent regulator for broadcasting, telecommunications, and postal industries, on Monday expressed concern over the misuse of Elon Musk’s Grok Artificial Intelligence to create “undressed images of people and sexualised images of children.”

“We are aware of serious concerns raised about a feature on Grok on X that produces undressed images of people and sexualised images of children,” Ofcom said in a statement on Monday.

The UK communications authority disclosed that it had “made urgent contact with X and xAI to understand what steps they have taken to comply with their legal duties to protect users in the UK.”

“Based on their response we will undertake a swift assessment to determine whether there are potential compliance issues that warrant investigation,” Ofcom added.

Grok, an Artificial Intelligence assistant developed by xAI on X, has been used to generate different kinds of images.

In recent weeks, X users have prompted Grok to create undressed images of people, a trend that has sparked widespread condemnation of the AI tool and its owner.

Responding to the outrage, Mr Musk said, “Anyone using Grok to make illegal content will suffer the same consequences as if they upload illegal content.”
