Morocco 2025: Lookman dismisses on-field clash with Osimhen during Mozambique game

Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman has dismissed the on-field clash with Victor Osimhen during Nigeria’s 4-0 win over Mozambique in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations round of 16 match at the Fes Sports Complex on Monday.
Speaking to reporters at the post match conference, Lookman, who was named the man of the match after scoring one goal and assisting two, noted he was yet to talk to Osimhen after the incident.
“I don’t think that is really important,” Lookman said while commenting on the incident. “The team won 4-0. He is a top striker but it is really not important,” the 2024 Africa Player of the Year added.
The incident occurred in the 62nd minute when Osimhen lashed out at Lookman following what appeared to be a disagreement over a pass, with the Galatasaray forward caught on camera telling the latter “listen to me, it is a team game”.
Subsequently, Osimhen, whom captain Wlifred Ndidi tried to calm, signaled to head coach Eric Chelle to sub him off and immediately stopped taking part in the match before he was eventually replaced by Moses Simon in the 68th minute.
Speaking further, Lookman maintained that his goal at this year’s AFCON is not to try to finish as the highest-goalscorer, with three goals already in the tournament, stressing that the team’s success is the priority.
