Man, 52, arraigned over alleged arms possession, breach of peace

The Chief Magistrate, Olabisi Ogunkanmi, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N2 million and two sureties in like sum.

A 52-year-old man, Kabiru Owoade, allegedly found in possession of arms and causing breach of the peace, on Tuesday, was arraigned before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The defendant, an inhabitant of Adetinu Village, Akufo area of Ibadan, was arraigned on four counts of conspiracy, possession of arms in public, breach of peace and threat to life.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Prosecutor, Sergeant Akeem Akinloye told the court that the defendant with others at large allegedly conspired together to commit the offences.

Mr Akinloye alleged that the defendant and other accomplices on December 20, 2025, while armed with gun and cutlasses, acted in such a manner as to cause terror to one Taofeek Gbadegesin on his farmland at Adetinu Village.

The prosecutor said that the defendant and his accomplices allegedly intimidated and harassed Gbadegesin and threatened to kill.

MrAkinloye said the offences committed contravened the provisions of Section 80, 249 (D), 328 and 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State 2000.

The Defence Counsel, Kehinde Adebayo, asked the court to grant the defendant bail in liberal terms.

The Chief Magistrate, Olabisi Ogunkanmi, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N2 million and two sureties in like sum.

Ms Ogunkanmi said that one of the sureties must be  a family head (Mogaji) and a blood relative to the defendant.

She adjourned the matter until March 16 for hearing. (NAN)
