The Agege Local Government Chairman, Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa, has inaugurated a streetlight project to boost security in the council area.

The project currently covers the Oba Ogunji Road to Pen Cinema underbridge corridor.

Speaking at the inauguration on Tuesday in Lagos, Mr Obasa said the initiative was part of a deliberate effort to tackle grassroots security concerns.

He said the project was designed to illuminate dark spots, enhance nighttime visibility and ensure safer movement for residents.

“Proper lighting discourages criminal activities and allows residents and commuters to move freely, especially at night,” he said.

He added that the project was in line with his administration’s urban renewal agenda.

Mr Obasa noted that improved lighting supports economic activities and enhances the outlook of communities.

The chairman said the project would be done in phases across communities in the council.

He said, “The council remains committed to people‑centred governance, infrastructural renewal and sustainable development.”
