Ondo sports commissioner urges protesters to embrace dialogue, peace

The commissioner for youth and sports development, Henry Omoyofunmi, has appealed to protesting sports unions, coaches, and athletes to embrace dialogue and unity following the appointment of Evelyn Lebi as acting general manager.
The protest had rocked the Ondo State Sports Complex in Akure over the appointment of Lebi on Tuesday. The protest, which disrupted activities at the sports complex, expressed concerns that the appointment might not positively impact sports development.
While addressing the issue during a crucial meeting with the management team of the Sports Council on Wednesday, Mr Omoyofunmi noted that while grievances were legitimate in a democratic setting, grounding activities at the sports complex was unacceptable.
He noted that the protest stemmed largely from misinformation and inadequate engagement. The commissioner said that after extensive consultations with key stakeholders, common ground had been reached.
“I assure you that all parties were now united and committed to advancing the governor’s vision for sports development under the new management,” he said
The commissioner further highlighted the governor’s investment in sports infrastructure and grassroots development, describing the administration’s commitment to the sector as historic and transformational.
“All stakeholders must unite, the government has made its decision, and it’s the best for sports development in the state,” he noted.
