Police impound 21 motorcycles for violating restriction order in Abuja

The police command in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) said it has impounded 21 motorcycles for violating an existing order restricting motorcycles from plying major roads and highways in Abuja.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, said this in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.
She said the motorcycles were impounded by operatives of the command in collaboration with other security agencies during an enforcement operation in the FCT.
Ms Adeh said the operation was in continuation of the command’s fight against crime in the territory.
“The operation led to the impounding of 21 commercial motorcycles found violating the existing restriction on motorcycle operations along major roads and highways.
“The riders were apprehended in line with extant laws and regulations,” she said.
Ms Adeh said the enforcement exercise was part of a sustained inter-agency strategy aimed at reducing traffic-related crimes, curbing the use of commercial motorcycles for criminal activities, and enhancing public safety.
She said the Commissioner of Police (CP) in charge of the FCT, Miller Dantawaye, had to ensure strict enforcement of all security and traffic regulations designed to protect lives and property.
The CP warned that continued defiance of the ban on commercial motorcycles along major routes will attract firm enforcement actions, adding that proactive operations would be intensified in the territory.
Mr Dantawaye enjoined the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies, comply with all traffic and security directives, and promptly report suspicious activities to the command through its emergency lines at 08032003913 or 07057337653.
