Abdulsamad Rabiu promises Super Eagles $500,000 for semi-final win, $1 million for AFCON title

Abdulsamad Rabiu, the chief executive of BUA Group, has promised to gift the Nigerian Super Eagles $500,000, equivalent to about N740 million, if they win their semi-final game at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
He promised the Eagles $1 million if they win the AFCON title in Morocco.
Rabiu announced this in a statement on social media shortly after the team’s 2-0 victory over Algeria in their quarter-final encounter on Saturday.
“Congratulations to our Super Eagles players on a brilliant victory against Algeria! You have lifted the spirit of the nation, and we proudly cheer you on as you prepare for the semi-finals,” Rabiu said.
“To encourage you, I pledge USD $500,000 to the players upon winning the semi-final, with an additional USD $50,000 for every goal scored.”
Rabiu added, “Should you go on to win the final, I further pledge USD $1,000,000, plus USD $100,000 for each goal scored in the final.”
The Eagles immediately asserted their dominance as the referee’s whistle kicked off the match, as they launched intensive attacking threats to grab the lead.
After a dominant first-half performance with several missed opportunities to grab the lead, Victor Osimhen broke the deadlock in the 47th minute after brilliantly heading a cross from Bruno Onyemaechi to put Nigeria ahead.
Ten minutes later, the former Napoli player set up Adams Akor well with a through pass inside the box as the Sevilla forward dribbled past goalkeeper Luca Zindane to put the ball into an open net, securing Nigeria’s spot in the final four.
Nigeria will face host nation Morocco for a place in the tournament final in a high-profile clash at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat on Wednesday.
