The Jigawa Police Command says it detained three armed robbery, fraud, and drug suspects apprehended in the Birnin Kudu Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Shiisu Lawan, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.

He said the suspects, aged between 17 and 30 years, were nabbed during a joint security operation involving the police, the army, the State Security Service (SSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and a vigilante group on Saturday.

Mr Lawan explained that the operation was carried out at Bariki Fulani settlement, Rugar Fulani, and Kwangara village in Sundumina District of Birnin Kudu, where locally fabricated guns, motorcycles, counterfeit currencies, phones, machetes, and cash were recovered.

The spokesperson added that the operation was part of the command’s effort, in collaboration with sister security agencies, to combat armed robbery and financial fraud in the state.

“The Jigawa State Police Command, in collaboration with sister security agencies, has recorded another significant operational success in its sustained efforts to combat armed robbery and financial fraud across the state.

“On January 10, 2026, at about 0200hrs, a joint security operation comprising personnel of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), the Nigerian Army, DSS, the NSCDC, and members of the vigilante group was conducted at Bariki Fulani Settlement, Rugar Fulani, and Kwangara Village, all within Sundumina District of Birnin Kudu LGA.

“During the operation, three suspects aged between 17 and 30 were arrested,” he said.

According to him, a search conducted led to the recovery of one locally made gun, two Boxer motorcycles, N50,000, and Somali shillings.

He said that others were five mobile phones, a power bank, a knife, a machete, and the sum of ₦289,620, suspected to be proceeds of crime.

Mr Lawan added that preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly specialise in luring unsuspecting victims to the area, under the guise of exchanging foreign currency, after which they would rob them of valuables.

“The suspects are currently in custody, while the investigation is ongoing with a view to uncovering further criminal networks and ensuring diligent investigation and prosecution,” he said.

He said the state’s commissioner of police, Dahiru Muhammad, commended all officers involved in the joint operation and reiterated the security agencies’ commitment to maintaining peace and order in the state.

Mr Lawan said Mr Muhammad urged residents and members of the public to remain vigilant and to provide timely, credible information to security agencies for prompt action.
