Iran’s security agents killed 544 protesters amid brutal crackdown on protesters: Report
As nationwide protests sparked by economic crisis enter its 15th day in Iran, at least 544 people have been killed and over 10,681 arrested amid internet blackout and brutal crackdown by security forces.
Human Rights Activists News Agency on Sunday said it recorded “the deaths of 544 people during the protests have been confirmed, and dozens of additional cases remain under review”.
According to the report, those killed in the ongoing protests in Iran include 47 members of military/law enforcement forces, 483 protesters, eight children, and five non-protesting civilian citizens.
It added, “More than 10,681 individuals have also been transferred to prisons following arrest. Protests have taken place at 585 locations across the country, in 186 cities, spanning all 31 provinces.”
In a statement on Saturday, the UN Fact-Finding Mission asked Iranian “authorities to immediately desist from any unnecessary and disproportionate use of lethal force, and adhere to international human rights law in its response to the nation’s ongoing protests”.
U.S. President Donald Trump is also putting pressure on Iran.
