Newly appointed registrar of the National Examination Council (NECO), Professor Ibrahim Wushishi, says the body would soon begin virtual conduct of its examinations.

Mr Wushishi made the disclosure on Thursday in Yola, Adamawa State while on a monitoring tour of the NECO Senior Secondary School Examination ongoing nationwide.

The registrar noted that no fewer than 1.3 million candidates are currently writing the exams, an increase from the 1.1 million students who wrote the exams in 2020.

He said the increment was indicative of the growing acceptability of the exams among Nigerian students.

“So far, from what I saw in some schools visited, the conduct of the examination is highly encouraging and fantastic.

“The conduct of the examination has demonstrated the mission and vision of the council for credible examination.

“And one of my cardinal objectives as Registrar of the council is to ensure the council achieve the international standard recognition and acceptability,” Mr Wushishi said.

According to the registrar, the body has put in place many mechanisms to protect the integrity and standard of the examination, as well as to checkmate the activities of saboteurs and other criminals.

Among the schools visited during the monitoring were Federal Government Girls College and Aliyu Mustapha College, both in Yola.

Mr Wushishi assumed office at the national examination body in July to replace Professor Godswill Obioma who was assassinated, Peoples Gazette reported.
