Rivers LG chair donates bus, office to military veterans

Akuro Tobin, the chairman of the Okrika Local Government Council in Rivers, has donated a bus and office space to the Okrika chapter of the Nigerian Legion.
Mr Tobin made the donations during the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration in Okrika on Thursday.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to promoting the welfare of military veterans and families of fallen heroes.
The chairman said the bus and office space would enhance the welfare of the legion’s members and their activities in the area.
Mr Tobin pledged to provide free medical services to veteran soldiers and the families of fallen heroes in the local government area.
Earlier, Maj. George Papame (rtd), the chairman of the Nigerian Legion in Okrika, urged the council to initiate activities that would give military veterans a sense of belonging.
Mr Papane commended the chairman for his support of the legion and expressed the willingness of members to support the council to promote security.
