Governor Douye Diri has urged corporate organisations and individuals to support Nigeria’s armed forces through contributions and partnerships to improve their conditions of service.

He spoke on Thursday during the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day at Peace Park, Yenagoa.

Mr Diri paid tribute to serving, retired, and fallen soldiers for their gallantry in preserving Nigeria’s territorial integrity.

He said the celebration should renew solidarity and gratitude towards heroes who sacrificed to protect and unify the nation.

“On this day, and every day, let us not forget those whose sacrifices made peace and safety attainable.

“Families who lost breadwinners, veterans whose lives were altered, and many who live with visible and invisible wounds demand our compassion as much as respect.

“The armed forces are the bedrock of national security. Without them, the very fabric of our country would be torn apart,” the governor said.

Mr Diri thanked President Bola Tinubu and military leaders for their efforts to improve soldiers’ welfare and service conditions.

He appealed to corporate organisations and private individuals to support the armed forces.

“Through contributions and partnerships, those who hazard so much for our safety must not be overlooked,” he said.

The governor assured his administration’s commitment to soldiers’ welfare, highlighted by the completion and handover of residential accommodation to the Nigerian Army 16 Brigade at Elebele.

He urged army leaders to collaborate with his administration, particularly in agriculture, to boost food security and sustainable livelihoods in Bayelsa.
