The Zamfara State Government said the Sardauna Memorial Stadium upgrade project has reached 90 per cent completion.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Haruna Dikko, gave the indication while inspecting the ongoing project on Friday in Gusau, Zamfara.

Mr Dikko, accompanied by other officials of the ministry, spoke to journalists shortly after the inspection.

He expressed satisfaction with the ongoing work, assuring that the project would be delivered in February.

According to him, the stadium was dilapidated and out of use when the Governor Dauda Lawal administration took over office in 2023.

He assured that the governmen would complete the work and open it for the Zamfara United FC among other sporting activities.

He said the facility would also be used to host other events to generate revenue for the state government.

Mr Dikko commended the project handlers, Monimichelle Sports Company, for the quality job and assured that the government would provide the necessary support needed for the project to be delivered in February.

Meanwhile, the engineer handling the project, Terngo Williams, who took the permanent secretary and other officials round the project, assured that it would be delivered as scheduled.

Mr William took the officials round the 1,000 capacity stadium’s pavilion, players’ dressing rooms for two teams, sanitary facilities, referees room, medical room as well as facility for ball boys.

He also took them round the main ball of the stadium where water draining pipes were being laid before the synthetic grass would be fixed.

Mr Williams assured that the materials needed to complete the remaining work were already in place.

He stated, “We are working hard not only to complete the project but according to specification too.”
