President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, on his re-election as the chairman of the Africa Minerals Strategic Group (AMSG).

AMSG is a forum of African ministers responsible for mining and solid minerals, established to maximise benefits from the continent’s vast mineral resources.

This is contained in a statement by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga on Monday in Abuja.

Mr Alake was first elected in 2024 on the sidelines of the Future Minerals Forum and re-elected at the group’s 2026 AGM in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Mr Tinubu described the re-election as a vote of confidence in Mr Alake’s leadership, commitment, and strategic advocacy for Africa’s minerals sector.

The president said the AMSG, under Mr Alake’s chairmanship, had provided a united African voice in advancing cooperation and safeguarding mineral resources.

He noted that the group had also helped position Africa as a key player in the global energy transition and critical minerals value chain.

Mr Tinubu commended Mr Alake for aligning AMSG’s objectives with Nigeria’s Renewed Hope Agenda on solid minerals development.

He said the agenda sought to unlock Nigeria’s mineral potential, attract sustainable investments, create jobs, and deliver socio-economic benefits.

“I congratulate Dele Alake for sustaining the confidence and trust of his colleagues across Africa, who have renewed his leadership of their forum.

“His pan-African vision to ensure the continent derives maximum benefits from its mineral wealth is commendable.

“As Nigeria’s minister of solid minerals, he has led reforms transforming the sector into a major contributor to the national economy,” Mr Tinubu said.

The president assured Mr Alake of the federal government’s support as he leads efforts to deepen cooperation and strengthen governance in the sector.

He said Nigeria would continue to promote transparency, sustainability, and inclusiveness in Africa’s minerals development agenda.
