Destiny Boy: Ogun police arrest suspect over death of 22-year-old singer

The Ogun State police command has disclosed that one suspect has been arrested over the death of singer Adesina Afeez, popularly called Destiny Boy.
The command said the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Homicide Section, for further investigation.
The command said, “The Ogun State Police Command has since commenced investigations into the death of Adesina Afeez, aged 22 years, popularly known as Destiny Boy.
“The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Section, for detailed investigation. One suspect is currently in custody while investigations are ongoing.”
The news of the singer’s death comes months after he welcomed his first child in November 2024, at the age of 20.
While the police are yet to confirm the cause of his death, the singer’s mother, Saida Adeshina, in a viral video on Monday, while explaining the health challenges of her son while he was alive, warned Nigerians against using her late son’s name to trend.
Speaking in Yoruba language, Mrs Adeshina said, “‘Ogun oru’ (nocturnal warfare) is the sickness that Destiny was battling. When the sickness comes for him, it takes over him like epilepsy. When he later gets relief after we’ve gotten something to treat him, he runs away and we run after him to catch him.
“We never revealed his health challenge to the public because he’s a superstar. We’ve gone left to right, churches, babalawos, pastors, Alfas, for him to be cured.
“Five days ago, I thought about him, so I called him, he didn’t pick the call. I felt he was sleeping. Three days ago, I asked his younger sibling to message him, so that when he wakes up, he’ll see it, that I said I just wanted to hear his voice. To cut the long story short, when I returned from the shop in the evening, they called me to come, that Brother Azeez has collapsed because his illness has occurred again.
“I was told that three days ago, he was still enjoying with people. He had a show yesterday, Sunday. His father was the one holding him in the vehicle until they got to the hospital.”
