The Managing Director of Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPADEC), Muhammad Yalwa, has inaugurated the commission’s Kaduna State office, charging staff to demonstrate commitment and dedication to duty.

Mr Yalwa, who spoke at the inauguration in Kaduna on Tuesday, said the office was established to bring the commission closer to its host communities and to fulfill its mandate in the state.

He said that the visit was to formally introduce the staff posted to Kaduna State; inaugurate the office provided by the Kaduna State government and engage key stakeholders whose activities impact HYPADEC’s operations.

He stated, “HYPADEC’s mandate is to provide social and economic interventions to communities hosting hydroelectric power facilities, rivers and dams contributing to electricity generation across the country.”

He said that Kaduna State hosts River Kaduna, which contributes significantly to the Gurara and Shiroro Dams, stressing the need to address ecological and environmental challenges faced by neighbouring communities.

Mr Yalwa said that Kaduna State became a member state of the commission in 2023, following the enactment of the Electricity Act, 2023, adding that the state office would enhance grassroots impact.

He urged staff to be ready for deployment to proposed area offices in rural communities to ensure effective service delivery, emphasising discipline, punctuality and respect for official hierarchy.

The managing director also assured staff of a reward system for outstanding performance.

In his goodwill message, Shafiu Garba, representing Kaduna State Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), wished the commission success.

The State Coordinator of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), Ambito Francis, pledged the agencies collaboration in skills acquisition and job.
