Two arraigned over alleged unlawful waste disposal

Two men, Ilori Idowu, 40 and Akintade Seun, 42, were on Wednesday arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged unlawful waste disposal.

The Police Prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on January 20 in Ado-Ekiti.

He said that the defendants, of unknown addresses, are facing a charge of unlawful waste disposal.

He said that the defendants unlawfully dumped waste at a place in the community other than a waste disposal site designated by the authority.

Mr Oriyomi said that the offence contravened Section 29(1)(a) and punishable under Section 29(2) of Ekiti State Waste Management Authority Law, 2020.

He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him study the file and assemble his witnesses.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against them.

Counsel to the defendants, Gboyega Abiola, urged the court to grant the defendants bail, with a promise that they would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Abayomi Adeosun, granted bail to the defendants in the sum of N10,000 each, with one surety each in like sum.

He adjourned the case till February 9 for hearing.
