Five kidnap suspects nabbed in Delta, weapons recovered

The police command in Delta State has said it apprehended five kidnap suspects and recovered assorted weapons from them.
The state police spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this to journalists on Thursday in Warri.
Mr Edafe said that the suspects were arrested on Tuesday within the Jedo/Ughoton/Warri axis of the state.
He said that the suspected hoodlums were arrested by the operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cybercrime Squad of the command.
He stated, “Acting on credible intelligence, the operatives carried out a coordinated follow-up operation in connection with reported cases of kidnapping and armed robbery across Obinoba, Obiaruku, Abraka, Ororokpe and surrounding communities.
“The intelligence-led operation saw the operatives discreetly trail a suspect to his criminal hideout on the Jedo/Ughoton/Warri axis of the state. Upon storming the location, the principal suspect and four others were arrested, while other members of the syndicate fled through adjoining creeks and waterways.”
He said that items recovered from the suspects included one AK-47 rifle with 12 rounds of live ammunition, and one locally fabricated Beretta-style pistol with three rounds of 9 mm live ammunition.
Other exhibits recovered are one Mercedes-Benz GLK, one battle axe, illicit substances in commercial quantity and a Point-of-Sale (PoS) machine.
Mr Edafe said that the suspects were currently undergoing interrogation as efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing members of the criminal syndicate.
