Makinde, Muftwang meet with Tinubu at Presidential Villa
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and his Plateau State counterpart, Caleb Mutfwang, on Thursday met with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Mr Makinde arrived at the villa at about 3:30 p.m., 30 minutes after Mr Mutfwang, who recently dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling All Progressives Party (APC), did. Both governors proceeded straight to the president’s office following their arrivals.
The meeting follows ongoing political realignments as key stakeholders commence strategic consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Thursday’s meeting marked Mr Makinde’s first publicly known encounter with Mr Tinubu.
Mr Makinde is believed to be nursing a presidential ambition and is said to be positioning himself for the PDP’s 2027 presidential ticket.
The Oyo governor and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, were among a group of five PDP governors known as the G5 who protested the emergence of the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
