I’m comfortable in PDP, despite crisis, says Seyi Makinde

Mr Makinde, however, said some issues require a bipartisan approach, where the APC and PDP would work together in the country’s interest.

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo says he has no reason to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declaring that he remains comfortable and firmly rooted in the crisis-ridden opposition party.
Mr Makinde spoke shortly after visiting President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja on Thursday.
“No, no, no. I’m comfortable in the PDP,” the governor said when asked if he planned to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Mr Makinde, however, explained that some issues require a bipartisan approach, where the APC and PDP would work together in the country’s interest.
“We may have issues in this country where you need a bipartisan approach. Where it won’t be an issue of maybe APC talking alone or PDP talking alone, where we will have to look at what is the best foot forward in the interest of our nation,” the governor said.
Mr Makinde further noted that internal disagreements were not peculiar to the PDP, noting that such challenges could be resolved through constructive engagement and adherence to democratic processes.
“So when you get to that junction, you need everybody on board,” the governor said.
Mr Makinde, who has been rumoured to be eyeing the PDP’s 2027 presidential ticket, is one of the few governors who have remained in the party, despite its internal crisis
